DIMAGGIO'S OPENS FIRST IRISH OUTLET IN CASTLECOURT

24 June 2013

Di Maggio’s, an award-winning chain of restaurants specialising in Italian-American food, has opened a new self-service outlet in the Food Court at CastleCourt Shopping Centre. Since opening its first restaurant in Glasgow in the early 1980s, the family-run business is now firmly established across Scotland, however, the move into CastleCourt marks the company’s first foray into the Irish market. The store opening will create 20 new jobs.

The company had been actively searching for an appropriate site to launch itself in Ireland when the opportunity to acquire a unit in CastleCourt arose. Chris Anderson, Area Manager for DiMaggio’s Food Court explains, “We knew of CastleCourt historically and that it has a busy, vibrant food court, which was a key factor in our decision to move into the Irish market. We also felt that the time was right to introduce our particular brand of affordable, home-style Italian and American-inspired dishes that has a broad appeal. We’re open throughout the day from morning until closing time, and indeed breakfast is proving to be very popular particularly as we’re the only outlet offering breakfast at present in CastleCourt.”

Alana Coyle of Osborne King who negotiated the letting added, “We’re delighted to see a successful company that is new to Northern Ireland, and indeed Ireland, opening for business in CastleCourt. This is a great endorsement of the centre and what it has to offer. Undoubtedly times remain very challenging for retailers; however, the arrival of operators such as Di Maggio’s provides a welcome boost to the food court and enhances its current offer significantly. The food offering at CastleCourt will be enhanced further this month when O’Brien’s Sandwich Bars will open for business creating a further 20 new jobs.”

Di Maggio’s is poised to move into the English market when it opens a new restaurant in Manchester in the near future and is currently seeking to identify further suitable opportunities for expansion within Northern Ireland.
